Berger Hunting .30 Caliber (.308 Diameter) 190gr VLD Hollow Point Boat Tail 100/Box are identical in design to VLD target bullets, but for the exception of the utilization of a thinner J4 Precision jacket for rapid expansion. Very Low Drag (VLD) hunting bullets are designed to penetrate 2-3″ before bullet expansion begins, resulting in a massive wound channel up to 15″. Simply put, the hydrostatic shock causes most animals to drop immediately. VLD bullets incorporate a secant ogive design which allows the bullet to experience less drag. The reduced drag is why the VLD bullets shoot flatter, experience less wind-drift, and have a higher retained velocity. Berger VLD hunting bullets are extremely popular for long range hunting applications and are most favored by custom bullet makers. These bullets are built for hunting large sized game (300 to 1500 lbs), including elk. These bullets are new production and non-corrosive.

I will be ready for 2020 deer season. I have been trying different loads for the last few months and I finally have my whitetail load perfected. Last year I took an 8 pointer down with a 180 grain berger vld out of a 20 inch barrel at 220 yards. I use to load hornady, now only berger. It is hard to say which of the two are better though. It really comes down to getting on the range and getting sighted in and seeing what your hunting rifle prefers. Some rifles like certain brands more than others. So it seems.
